Wait... No, no it’s not.
It’s such a shame such a good looking car is built so bad.
Here’s a handy little list of what is currently wrong on a 3 year old, 36000 mile car that is in no way abused by my middle aged mother:
-A couple days ago a piece of the sun visor just fell off into my mom’ lap while driving. This piece had already broken on the passenger side about month 2 of ownership.
-She’s also still complaining about a rattle the Ford dealer has claimed is the sunroof controls and has “fixed” twice now.
-There’s a creak from the rear end over bumps if someone sits in the back that’s only audible on the inside.
-It has a recall right now that the seat belts might fail to remain latched in an accident which didn’t have a remedy for about 6 months, which is I think recall number 4 on a 3 year old car.
-The trim around the window switches is popping up again on all 4 doors, the Ford dealer has fixed it once already.
I mean yes, thankfully there’s been nothing that affects reliability (except those couple days it just wouldn’t start without a jump then when we tried to show the Ford dealer it started just fine...) but this still might be only the second car my mom ever gets rid of before its paid off. And probably the last Ford.

A friend of mine has one of those. It’s blue but has those same wheels. His only complaint so far is that he didn’t hold out for a manual.

Is his a 1.5L? Those are built in Michigan as opposed to the 2.0L like ours that are built in Mexico. I’m really thinking that has something to do with it.

Yeah from my experience with mazdas the Mexico built ones are 90% of the problems.

Yep

Is it just me or have American car manufacturers been disappointing recently?

I think that’s why Toyota sells so darn many Camrys...

Other than a couple of “Why would you cost cut here, Ford?(rear motor mount)“ moments, mine has been fine other than the paint. It’s bolted together quite tight, and even with the near solid motor mount, no new rattles have formed. I’ve also managed to avoid every recall by like a build month, though I need to weigh my spare wheel, could be sitting on some change on the street.

I think build quality has gone down across all makes TBH. They’re more concerned about stuffing tech in instead if building them properly.

Then you get eye searingly ugly. It’s a lose-lose

Its a Chrysler product though, it could be built anywhere and still be built like shit.

This is why I stay away from fords that aren’t special or f150s, no reason to buy a base Ford boring mobile just to have Mexican built subpar quality

Ours hasn’t had any issues with exterior build quality at all. The gaps are all consistent and there’s no odd wear or paint damage. Hell, it went through a hail storm that totaled some cars only getting two dings on the hood. The inside is just built like shit.

If my parents weren’t horsepower hungry people who always need the largest motor available, we could’ve got a 1.5L EB one built in Michigan and probably had no problems.

Yeah I forgot they made them here, probably fixes all the problems you are having

agree, both the current and new are pretty weird looking... I really don’t like that ‘yota droopy nose styling...

CPO?
And please tell me it doesn’t have a Takata airbag ...

Bought brand new with 1000 miles on it.
If it does, we haven’t been notified about it.

Even if it’s just out of warranty they should be fixing everything. And always make them write on the work order (or do it yourself): “customer suspects piston slap, oil starvation, bad heater core ...” - whatever it is. That way you can prove you brought it up under warranty.

I was talking about the inside.

when I was little, American cars were disappointing because they had rust holes in the body before they were 4 years old, and blew out core plugs from the engine being driven off of the transporter delivering them from the dealer. Or would conk out and refuse to start if it was raining. or had 4-wheel drum brakes which became useless after driving through an inch of water.
if you think loose trim and interior rattles are what define a “bad car,” then don’t ever buy a Subaru.

Yeah kind of figured fit and finish still is not up to par. Though much of the domestic mid size is the same way. Probably why Camrys and Accords still sell so well (in sedan segment). Also those wheels look tiny on that car. Could just be the angle but still.

Sorry to hear. What year is it? I’m wondering if it’s the first year of that model.

And people wonder why I like older more analogue cars, at least they don’t need several special computers to fix them.
